RE: Request for wintertime evening access to two lighted Lower Woodland courts for pickleball play.

Hi Peter,

Thanks for reaching out to Councilmember Strauss’ office with your support for pickleball courts at Lower Woodland Park. I also appreciate you taking the time to let us know how impactful the pickleball community has been for you.

I’ve reached out to Parks for more information on the prospect of pickleball courts at Lower Woodland and will let you know when I have more information. If you’d like to meet with Councilmember Strauss to discuss this topic or any other, I would be happy to set up an office hours appointment for you.

Please let me know when you get a chance, and I will let you know when I have more information.

Thanks,
Amy

Dear Peter,

Thank you for reaching out. Councilmember Lewis (cc’d) would be glad to support the GLP’s request for increased dedicated access to pickleball play at Lower Woodland. Our office will raise the issue with the Parks Department, and I will revert back to you with an update.

Our office always appreciates hearing from folks in the community on issues big or small on how to improve D7.

Best regards,

Re: Request for wintertime evening access to two lighted Lower Woodland courts for pickleball play.

Pickleball Advocates,

I’ll start by saying that I took Pickle Ball as a class at Franklin High School back in the late ’80s. I still remember the slight advantage of being a southpaw: my spin threw off many of my opponents. So my love of the sport goes way back. And as Brian also knows, what I might lack in athletic skill, I try to make up for with competitive fire. It is how I approach specific issues in Politics as well.

Now to the present. Yes, the city should be putting more resources towards more pickleball courts, and we should provide a few of the lit Lower Woodland courts to be used during the “Great Dark” period from October to April. I was just at a house in Tangle Town last night for a candidate meet & greet where play fields and courts came up. That conversation was more about ball fields, but it is the same issue about access. I am happy to talk more on the subject, and thank you for reaching out.

Kettle for Seattle sent you a new message

Hi Peter, Thank you so much for writing in. Bob believes strongly in community building and community spaces, and increasing public park area access to the community to include the Pickleball community. From the information you’ve provided, Bob will absolutely support your request to expand access to the lighted courts and more opportunities to play. Thank you for writing in and for your support! Bob looks forward to being the new Councilmember from District 7. Thank you.
